Capt. Mike Gerry with some tips that help you prepare for success this fall on Guntersville
Its mid-September. The best thing we can look for this time of year on Lake Guntersville, believe it or not, is bad weather. The weather in North Alabama often goes into a cycle where we will have bad weather about every three days. The bass respond positively on those foul-weather days and start the fall feeding frenzy before the real cold weather sets in. The second and final baitfish spawn on Guntersville occurs in late August, and youll find baitfish covering the coves. So when the forecast is for a rainy, cloudy, nasty day, grab your gear and go fishing, and you will have some fun
The bite for the next couple of weeks should hit some traditional patterns. Around small patches of grass try a top water bite with a rat, Stanley Ribbit Frog, or Rebel Pop-R.
You should be able to throw a spinnerbait to the edges of these small grass patches and catch fish.
Youll also catch fish by “dead sticking” with a Senko, Dead Ringer, or Magic Stick. The small deep patches of grass in 10 feet of water should also be ideal for a deep worm or jig.
You just need to get on the water, find a nasty day, and have some fun.
Help us protect our resource on Lake Guntersville. Keep all trash off the water, and work collectively to keep all big money developers from spraying the grass without the consent of the proper governing bodies.
Come fish with me, I do have fall days available.
