Secret Weapon Spinnerbaits

From the moment these baits arrived, I have been impressed with them. I work full-time as an engineering designer and was overwhelmed by the simplicity and ingenuity of these baits. They are the first major redesign in spinnerbaits since the inception of the “safety pin” style.

The Secret Weapon spinnerbait is a departure from the norm, eliminating bothersome swivels and incorporating a failure-proof means for the blades to operate on. Utilizing a unique series of clevises, beads, and a specific wire shape, the Secret Weapon is able to achieve what others fail to do.

Blade changing on this bait is a 10 second operation and allows the angler to change the bait to optimize it for the conditions encountered. Also, the blade attachment system allows for many different combinations from only one or two baits. Imagine not having to purchase each spinnerbait size (1/4, 3/8, 1/2, 3/4) in dozens of color and blade combinations. With the Secret Weapon, the angler can have one or two of each head size, a handful of skirts and blades and literally have a boxful of baits.

Components on the Secret Weapon are second to none, utilizing high quality Mustad hooks, stainless steel clevises and wire, and non-stick silicon skirts with long-lasting colors. Paint is chip-resistant and long lasting, able to take repeating “banging” on rip-rap walls. A very useful feature of the spinnerbait is that each size head has dots on the bottom of the head representing what weight it is. Each dot represents 1/8 oz. increments. If, for example, the bait has 3 dots on the bottom, it has a 3/8-ounce head.

During on the water testing, the Secret Weapon was fished side by side with two other spinnerbaits, one being a premium, “high dollar” bait, the other a “local” favorite. To make things even, the other angler and I switched back and forth between all of the baits. In each instance, the Secret Weapon caught as many, and in most cases, more fish than the other two. During “slow rolling” presentations, the Secret Weapon stayed deeper and “rolled” better than the other two. While burning the bait just under the surface, the Secret Weapon resisted rolling over better than the others. When fished in grass, remarkably the Secret Weapon was more weed resistant than the other two.

This bait is a “MUST BUY.” Colors and sizes tested were 3/8 oz. Green Goddess and 3/8 oz. White and Chartreuse.
