Shimano V-Rod

Model: VSA-70M Medium Action Spinning Rod

Secret Weapon Spinnerbaits

I have to say right from the start, if I could have only one rod to use for the rest of my life, this rod would be it! I usually don’t get that excited about a new product, but from the first day that I had this rod it became my favorite.

It is a 7-foot, medium action rod with a fast taper. Taper ratings are something that more and more manufacturers are including in their literature and may need some explaining. Tapers are a way of defining what type of bend the rod has. The slower the taper, the closer to the reel the rod begins to bend and the faster the taper the closer to the tip the rod begins to bend.

This rod seems capable of doing almost anything that is asked of it. I’ve thrown 1/8 oz tubes in 28 ft. of water on Lake Erie with it and it is really sensitive. I’ve also used it to skip small jigs under docks.

Usually, I used a medium/heavy action to skip with and I first thought that the medium action this rod had would not have enough backbone. Boy, was I wrong!! I’ve caught largemouth over 4 pounds under docks with this rod and it was able to pull them out. This is a serious piece of fishing equipment!
