Best Bodies of Water: Lake Arenal, Costa Rica

“Secret Weapon Lures... Saved The Day, and changing the blades is so easy! I love how they work. You ALL deserve credit for manufacturing a quality lure, and you can quote me on that.”

Below are some guapote and machaca caught by Capitan Ron’ guests using Secret Weapon lures!

Leann Saunders reported in February: ”We’ve had some of the most extreme weather here this year. Normally the rain and winds lay down in the middle of January, and we go into a ‘dry season.’ But this year we are still having storms, and Lake Arenal is full to capacity. The water is about 5 degrees colder then normal, and it has been very tough fishing. But, with the help of your Secret Lure Sidearm spinner baits, Ron is catching fish! Below are two pictures taken last week, of fish caught on Secret Weapons. The guapote has the lure still in its mouth, and the machaca was caught on a spinner also, but flipped the lure out of its mouth in the boat, so the angler had to use Boga Grips for the pic.

“Ron wants you to know that he had a couple of rough days were the ONLY fish he caught were on Secret Weapon lures. He is avidly promoting your lures to his clients, and we have your stickers on our boat and tackle boxes for clients to see.”

March 5, 2009: “Our weather is still making it very tough to get some rainbow bass in the boat, but several days in a row no fish on the top water but in the am only the Sidearm has been taking fish, I love explaining to the client how fast and easy it is to change the blade size and color as fast as I would normally switch the lure out for another. The small twin willow blade is the trick, with a slow roll out of the grass then wham!!!”

March 6, 2009: “Today was a classic Secret Weapon day, cold, wet and raining all day and 5 out of six fish were taken on the Sidearm.”

March 21, 2009: “ I had two more sets of fisherman out on the lake, and the only fish caught were on your spinner baits. One man said he would be contacting you to purchase some, he was very impressed with the double blades and the changeability. AND... we just had a well-known Canadian writer here to fish with us for two days, and he said he might mention Secret Weapon Lures in his article; it is coming out in May in a popular Canadian bass fishing magazine.

“Normally we don’t see our big fish this time of year on the surface, but last week two guys from Canada came down and in the last hour of fishing one pulled a 7-pound fish right off a good point. It was the first big fish caught this season without trolling. Of course it was on your Sidearm spinner bait. The dual small gold blades just keep catching fish. THANK YOU! THANK YOU!”

Lake Arenal Guapote, Costa RicaApril 11, 2009: “We are about to be published in the only bass fishing magazine in Canada called BASSMAN and I think he plans to mention the Secret Weapon Side Arm.”

“Now that the lake is warming up, we are starting to catch the "big ones" — we’ve had four fish just under 8 pounds in the last couple of weeks, and it will keep getting better for the next couple of months. So look forward to some Secret Weapon "lure pictures" to post on your website, and we'll keep you up-to-date on published shots and mentions in captions and articles.

April 21, 2009: “Because December through March is probably the toughest fishing season (the water is high and cold), none of the guides here on the lake catch many noteworthy fish. We were catching many of our fish during this slow season on Secret Weapon lures, some days exclusively so. But because they are smaller fish (that time of year) they don’t tend to get much publicity coverage. But some tours were actually ‘saved’ by Secret Weapon lures — at least the clients caught something, and that makes the difference for us to stand out as guides during the slow season.

“Now that the bigger fish are showing up, we are looking forward to seeing the advantage of our Secret Weapon lures!”
