- A small farm pond in Iowa where the biggest bass I’ve ever caught is swimming

Favorite Fishing Technique: 1. Slow retrieving Sidearm with small mixed color Colorados and a Blue Avenger skirt. (It won me two checks and caught fish in tough conditions.)
2. “Puckering” the surface with a medium silver willow Quickstrike in a white/red skirt. This rapid, rod lifting technique has saved my behind in quite a few club tournaments at the end of the day.

Fishing Experience: Fishing Experience: I grew up next to a farm pond that was “owned” by my neighbor and outdoor mentor. He taught me so much about the outdoors while instilling in me the importance of catch & release and management of the resource. My father and I have been fishing together for as long as I can remember. I’ve been fishing tournaments for the past several years. I’ve had pretty good success and a great time doing it. My current focus is to gather as much knowledge as I can to make me as versatile an angler as I can possibly be.

Pro’s Pointers: I think the Secret Weapon lure design - and especially the kits — is tapping into the same fascination we all had in our youths with Legos, Erector Sets and Lincoln Logs. There is something undescribably rewarding about “building” something successful. I DECIDED to use mixed colorados, I DECIDED to swap skirts, I DECIDED to use a small weight/large blade. It’s never a matter of “what’s in the box for me to throw,” it’s always “what am I going to MAKE that will catch fish today/” ...it’s cool feeling.
