 Secret Weapon Lures sponsors Fishing With Jim Austin Tournament Trail — (formerly Angler’s Paradise tour) one of the newest and brightest national buddy trails for the weekend angler. With tournaments all over the Southeast, this tour attracts new members with its sportsmanship and friendly competition. Jim Austin from Atlanta, GA, is a ground-breaker for African-American bass anglers. He shattered the color barrier of national bass fishing competition, becoming the first African American to successfully compete in the Red Man Tournament where he captured 5th Place in the Bulldog Division. Austin founded the Sportman’s Association of Black Bass Anglers (S.A.B.B.A.) so that other black anglers would have more opportunities to compete in tournaments. He still holds the record for the largest bass caught on Lake Oconee, GA, at nearly 14 lbs. Austin became the first African American to host a televised fishing series, Angler’s Paradise, which originally aired on FOX Sport Net South and later on Comcast Sports SE.

 Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail — a nonprofit, nondenominational ministry whose mission is to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to fishermen and their families through competitive and professionally run fishing tournaments. During the 2006 season, 53 bass tournament divisions and 4 redfish divisions will combine for a total of 285 tournament events. Divisional tournament events begin Friday evening, when anglers are treated to a meal, tournament details, and door prizes, and they hear a gospel message. Tournaments run on Saturdays. Membership is open to anyone without regard to religion, gender, age, or race.

Rich Z’s Fishing Stuff — Rich Zaleski is, without a doubt, our favorite fishing and hunting writer. Although his writing ranges far afield, his specialty is fresh water fishing for largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass, crappie, nothern pike, musky and walleye. How To Get Sponsored For Fishing Tournaments, Volume I and Volume II represent the best investment an aspiring tournament angler or event promoter can make.  All City Bass Club of Nashville, TN has fished Tennessee lakes and rivers since the mid-’70s. They sponsor the “Tounament for Challenged Youths" for the Easter Seal Foundation, where club members take 30-50 youths fishing. SWL is a 2006 sponsor of this event.
